Hello to my beloved Gaggle,

I miss you crazy people more than words can convey and I am so glad that this blog is back up and going....well it's trying to at least.

Life for me in Maine has been a roller coaster but overall I have settled into my new life. I have working hard at finding my new normal in this world of chronic and progressive illness and believe that I have finally made peace with the new me...medical devices and all. Hey, how many people do you know that set off alarms at the library and have to get patted down by the TSA when they see a tube running from under my shirt to a bag with a pump that is flashing neon green??

I have been actively pursing my dream of becoming a children's book author. I am taking a two year correspondence course from the Institute for Children's Literature and so far all three of my stories have been met with rave reviews by my reviewers (I may even have two that they believe are publishing material). Can I get a Woo Woo??

To also prove how much more comfortable I have become with my new self...I have begun dating again. It has been a wild ride and I am still wondering if boys are just too stupid to deal with, but alas I want a man and I want one now!! I am not letting being sick hold me back from my dream of being a wife and mother one day and if Match.com will help me get there then gosh darn it I am gonna do it. I have had many dates and was surprised at how many guys are appreciative of my honesty about my illness in my profile.

Other than that, I am gearing up for autumn in Maine and I have got to tell you it is my favorite time of year. The air is turning crisp, the leaves are beginning to show their brilliance and the apples are begging to be picked and turned into apple pie. So, does any of that entice my Gaggle loves to come up for a visit???

Well, there you have it...my life since leaving Memphis. I miss you all terribly and so need a Gaggle fix...I am watching travelocity for a cheap ticket and by all means when one shows up be ready for me :)!

Fruit Of The Gods

Once upon a time in the Conch Republic, there was a bronzed party boy who loved to drink mojitos under mango trees. He spent his days with other party boys tanning their nude bottoms under the Key West sun. He spent his nights dancing from one club to the next, never seen without an icy adult beverage in his hand. On one particular evening of Dionysian frivolity, the bronze party boy was enjoying his mojito in a jungle canopied bar. He swayed to Madonna's "Ray of Light", not spilling a drop of minty, limey coolness cradled in his grip. Then from out of nowhere, a large ripe mango hit the top of his head. The impact was so great that he likened that of the image of a whooping crane dodging raindrops. Much to his (and everyone watching) surprise, the cocktail never left his hand and never let a drop leave the tall, icy glass. "I've been hit!", he screamed. Thinking the worst and known for high drama, the bronzed party boy came up swinging (cocktail in hand). His very large, hunky blonde friend standing close by picked up a large mango and presented it to the party boy. Silently they both shrugged their shoulders and began to laugh hysterically. The hunky blonde pulled out his knife and sliced the mango into their cocktails. Lesson of the story: Order a mango daiquiri for emergencies. The End

Still A Ship Of Fools

And while the world has been a changing sea around us, the ever changing Gaggle remains a ship of fools. Thanks to Dusty, this is my fourth blog. I think we owe it to ourselves to give it another go. We still have adventures, drama, COMEDY, a few tears (Skipper and my beloved Chef), food, lots of wine, and a long way to go before retirement! There are more stories to be told, more secrets to keep...tell...then lie about later. There's still plenty of shit to make up! And now we're a little older, a little wiser, a little less inclined to stay out all night...but, we still know how to make each other and more importantly, ourselves...laugh...hysterically, and out loud. I can honestly say that I have had tons of friends in the past, but none like these men and women of the Gaggle. All together, broken into smaller groups, or coupled up...no matter how you dice us up, there is...unquestionalby...no better people that I am inclined to share time with. So, even if some of us don't keep up with blogs, I would like to thank Dusty again for bringing us together, if only in words and images. Peace to the Pink Lady and Miss Peach...our honeys and peace to T Bear...we loves ya girl! And I fully expect to see pictures, video, and some posts from Skipper, Hotass, the Chef, Stick, Jon Jon, Sweet Wade, Dusty, Le BoBo, and of course the aforementioned honeys. Swiffering dust off a dormant blog is a bitch.

Well, it's been almost two years since regular posts showed up here. The main reason is that we're all easily distracted by bright shiny objects, and once updates to any particular blog fall out of regular habit, the dust begins to pile and becomes harder to clean off. Bad analogies aside, we all got busy.

That said, we're all still kickin'. And a recent post on The Artist's blog made me think: we owe the blogosphere an update on the last couple of years.

The Reader's Digest condensed version of the Gaggle's 2006, 2007, and Q12008:

- Some of us moved away from Memphis and some of us stayed.

- Some who moved came back and some didn't.

- We've added to the number of "couples" since last we posted, and some relationships have ended or changed.

- A few "geese" have faded from the center stage for one reason or another and we've added a few, including our first set of fully-qualified lesbians. Which is way cool, because lesbians are wicked-handy to have around and are generally way less obnoxious than gay boys when drunk (a crime of which I am clearly guilty from time to time).

- Some of us have been to India, some of us have been to New Orleans, and some of us haven't left the Mid-South.

- We've managed to drive both of our most favorite homo honeys (or "fag hags", if you're feeling nasty) away from Memphis, although both for good reasons and without any loss of love and mutual adoration.

- We've managed to add a couple other cool straight chicks.

- Some of us have new jobs, some of us started our own businesses, some of us have the same jobs, and some of us are still threatening to quit the same jobs we've been threatening to quit since before there was a gaggle (you know who you are).

- None of us have stopped drinking alcohol.

To sum it up, "change" has been our mantra even more so than Barack Obama's primary campaign. Some of it good, some of it less than good. But all of it as a testament to this thing we call the human experience. And all of it while loving and supporting each other in whatever capacity was appropriate at the time.

For detailed updates, I'll post the status of Dusty and LeBobo (and Honey, of course) here in a day or two. Perhaps it will start a chain of other goose-updates, we shall see. Also, I've updated the "Other Gaggle Blogs" section (see the right hand column) with the valid blog addresses for the only members still actively blogging. I'd love to add more to the list, but these bitches seem to be too busy to blog. C'est la vie.

*UPDATE* Since the original post, Skipper has started blogging again. So I've added a link to his blog on the right. Jeezus H.

I have tried to post this multiple times in the past week...but it keeps saying error and deleting my post...so I am trying again...

Hello, my Gaggle buddies...greetings from rainy and chilly Maine. I arrived in Maine on Wed. and have been trying to get settled. I thought it was about time to catch up with my Gaggle loves. Because I had to stay at Mayo for nearly two weeks (much longer than anticipated) I was unable to return to Memphis to attend the SummerFest and say goodbye to all of my Gaggle friends in person and from what it sounds like in high style. I think my mom and I missed a great party! My mom can attest that I have shed many tears over the past week, especially because I wasn't able to say goodbye to my dear friends in Memphis in person, it makes transitioning into this new phase of my life so much harder. I really wanted to give each of you one last hug before returning to my roots. I am struggling with this change, but am trying to keep a positive attitude about recovery and making Maine my home again. I keep thinking that I am just visiting and will be returning to Memphis in a week...I guess it will take time.

I just want you all to know I love you. If you ever want to take in Maine's ocean views or the brilliance of a New England fall please know that my home will always be open to you (plus my parents would love to meet you ). Homeward Bound

Well, I have made the decison to return home to my family in Maine. I found out two weeks ago that my job at St. Jude has been filled and that my doctor doesn't believe that I will be able to return to work before my extended medical leave it up (if I could then I could apply for another position in the department). After a lot of thought and tears I decided it was best for me to return to Maine both emotionally and financially. My dad will be flying down to pack up my apartment while my mom and I are in Minnesota at Mayo. When my mom and I return we will all then make the long drive home to Maine. I haven;t seen a fall in Maine in seven years..so I guess that is something to look forward to.

I'm not sure of the exact date of our departure yet, but will be sure to let you all know. My time in Memphis as a member of the Gaggle has been memorable and an experience I am so grateful to have had. I hope one day to return to St. Jude and to the loving arms of my Gaggle guys (and gal, of course). I know that my parents would love to meet you all so I will be sure to let you know when they are here...don't be surprised if I ask ya'll to lend my daddy some muscle during the packing (only if you are available of course). Saying goodbye to my job is tearing me apart and saying goodbye to my Gaggle friends is even harder. I love you all and will always check in on the goings on of the Gaggle. Don't forget Shanendoah (or Miss Peach as AJ prefers)! I miss you all!

Wade and I spoke and have come to the decision that for our birthdays; (Wade 4-14-06 and Myself 4-29-06) That it would be easier (and cheaper) on the entire gaggle to try and convene at one location just once, rather than splitting us apart and doing 2 separate shin-digs at 2 separate times.

So here is what Wade and I have arranged. On the evening of, Saturday, April 22nd, 2006 @ 8pm ... Wade and I have booked a section of the patio at Cafe Ole for the entire Gaggle and other guests. (Approx. 25 people) I spoke with Matt (one of the servers) and he assured us we would be taken care of by him.

I would like to invite each and every one of you to join us and have drinks and be merry!

Just look at what the poltergeist in Wade's Aptartment did! I didn't believe him at first when he told me, but then i sat on the floor to watch tv and suddenly i slid down the hallway and into the kitchen in a matter of seconds. There is definately some type of Supernatural Force at work here! There is an upside to this however. Wade's Poltergeist cleans up dirty dishes and stacks them in the sink to be washed! However, I still would have to give this type 'phenomenon' a "Fuck that noise, Shit!" and get my ass the hell outta that apartment ASAP!

Our sweet Sheridan is ill...

Hello boys! I hope that the cold weather is treating you okay. I wanted to post to let you all know that Sheridan is really sick right now. After a bout with Pneumonia and Bronchitis, she's still under the weather. She's now starting the tedious process of getting a diagnosis for whatever is causing her to have high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath (and no it's not hot sex... so we can rule that one out!!!). She's gone to her PCP, and allergist/immunologist, and has appointments at the cardiologist and pulmonologist. She's on FMLA from work, because her PCP put her on bedrest, but she's out of vacation and sick time. I wanted to tell you all this because she needs our thoughts, prayers, and well wishes.

I know that I miss seeing everyone and she does too! I hope that we can all get together soon! I was thinking about planning a murder mystery dinner party... anyone interested?

As always, you men are so special and important to me! I am thankful to have each of you in my life! All my best, Amy

Thanks, to all of you boys and girls for making the journey out to Arlington this weekend. The party would not have been right without y'all there to help make it a home (oh yeah, and to eff some things up!!)...

Anyway, a few comments from our coworkers and neighbors:

-Your friends are SOOOO terrific. A little different than I'm used to, but awesome!! (Tamika Martin)

-I want to party with Wade! (Angela Washington)...to which I said "Girl, you couldn't hang..." ;-)

-I knew from the second I saw him that I loved Rob's soul... (Sandy Sissom). Which made me think "Hell, you should see his manhood..."

To tie up a few loose ends, and to ensure we follow proper homo etiquette, there were a few gifts with no name on them...and we've got thank you cards to write... So if you brought any of the following items, please send me an email:

1) Leather storage boxes (beeeeeeutiful)
2) A Pottery Barn candle with real flowers in the wax (totally hot)
2) A few sets of Pyrex ramekins (used 'em last night)

Anyway, we love our fab family, and hope to see you out at the house many more times in the future (although we'll probably have to charter a bus!!)... In fact, we'd love to have a Desperate Housewives party on our own little piece of Wisteria sometime soon...

Gaggle Mission

MISSION #1
Ok Guys. I think we seriously need to start thinking about Christmas and all get together and draw names from a hat or a caldron...whichever you prefer. This has been discussed at various times but not in complete gaggle company and nothing has been set in stone. I feel that if we all (those that want to participate) put our names in a hat 2 times, then everyone draw 2 names, thats the person or 2 people that you have to buy for for Christmas. The reason that i put person is because, (for example) if i draw James' name 2 times, then i get James 2 gifts. Now we also have been thinking it would not be quite right if (for example) Dustin drew Tims name or AJ drew Robs name.... so if that occurs, they put the name back in and redraw. We could let the 4 of them draw first since they are pretty much the only ones that are dating/married to anyone else in the gaggle.
Now we also need to "possibly" help some fellow gaggle members out by making a wishlist on some place like Amazon.com or somewhere to let people know what sorta things we are interested in and want. Some people in the gaggle i know better than others, but if i draw someones name and am unsure what their likes and dislikes are, then it can be difficult without a some type of scorecard.... if you get what i mean.
Im not sure what sorta dollar amount yall wanna set on the gifts. At my job, we draw names and we say about 35 dollars is what we try and spend on everyone to make it fair. If you like that idea, thats good, if not, thats fine too, i dont mind spending a little more... i mean its Christmas!! YAY!

MISSION #2
Also, it has been mentioned that we should form a group meeting every month and it be one person in the groups job to plan everything and get it organized so that we all can spend time together doing something fun that we wouldnt normally do....such as playing laser tag or at christmas time, making alot of sandwiches and such and giving them out to homeless people. James suggested this idea and i thought it was a good idea as well. Also, im not sure if you are interested, but on Tuesday nights at The P&H cafe, they have trivia night and i believe it is only 4 bucks per person. Peter knows alot more about this... he has done it many times. All i know is Peter is on my team since he knows alot of useless information. No Offense Peter. Hahaha

MISSION #3
Ok here is an idea that i found to be fun but its it going to have to be spur of the moment whenever we do it, which may not work well for some in our group due to work related issues. I think the next time it snows and we have everything covered in that pretty white stuff (and NO shannon and wade i dont mean THAT white stuff) that we all go to a gorgeous cemetary with alot of monuments and pillars and so forth and take gaggle photos in color and black and white. I know it sounds a little bizzare, but they always turn out to be gorgeous pics.

Well I must say that I had more fun at Saturday nights Wedding than i ever have in my entire life at any old boring Str8 wedding that i have been to. I dont know what it is about Str8 weddings that totally drain the ever living shit out of me (No offense Amy) but its almost like i want someone to get a running start with a pencil and shove it in my eye to complete the honor of being there. Ugh! Anyhow... I cant say enough great things about the joining of 2 of the most wonderful, caring, biggest hearted people i know. Although i didnt get to see what was happening (pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...hahaha) I did see the rehearsal and it was wonderful to see. Rob and AJ... i wish you the best of luck. As i said to you before, i love to see gay men make a dream like this come true, it does give hope for the rest of us and shows us that being patient is a key element in allowing the planets to align properly for the right man to fall into our lives.
Big Linda looked ELEGANT and Rob your mother was simply beautiful and was so much fun to sit and talk with. She told me alot about you. AJ, your father must be the president of PFLAG ... he chose his words perfectly and arranged them to show his support and that was something i thought i would never hear a father say about his gay son. I almost got a little choked up. Altogether ... The entire ceremony was the most beautiful display of love, trust and compassion that i think i have ever witnessed in my life. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your union and for allowing me to be part of your lives. I look forward to spending many many more years with you all (the whole gaggle). This Saturday evening, the Artist and the Chef tied the knot. As the night began, the weather was ominously perfect, despite warnings of hurricane Rita's vengeance. Scott's rooftop was peacefully setup to accommodate the closest of friends and family, and everyone was looking truly fabulous.

I may only be speaking for myself, but the Artist's parents hadn't quite stepped all the way through the door, accompanied by the smooth vocals of Celtic Woman's "You Raise Me Up" before I started weeping like a busted up New Orleans levee. Oy veh. At the pinnacle of the song, our boys came out the door, dressed in fabulous striped tuxedos, and clearly about to burst open with love.

The ceremony was very simple and sweet. Very peaceful. And I, for one, have been to many weddings that did not feel half as blessed as this one.

Hopefully somebody's going to put some pictures up pretty soon...

So, I have GREAT NEWS!!!!!

My precious New York Gal will be here in OCT!!!!! I am so, so, so terribly excited for you all to meet her and she to meet you all. When we spoke the other day she mentioned how much fun it will be to see you all in person.

Kim will be getting into Memphis on Tue 11th and will be spending the first part of her trip with her Grandfather and then I will meet up with her on that Fri 14th for a weekend of FUN with you all.

I want everyone to put on your calendar Fri 14th for a dinner party in Kim's honor. I will be house sitting for Scott that weekend, so we will be having a wonderful time in my second home on Jefferson. More info to come soon.

Dear Gaggle,
This perfectly delightful note is being sent on paper I made myself to tell you what I have been up to recently. Since it snowed last night, I got up early and made a sled with some old barn wood and a glue gun. I hand-painted it in gold leaf, got out my loom, and made a blanket in peaches and mauves. Then to make the sled complete, I made a white horse to pull it from DNA that I just had sitting around in my craft room. By then, it was time to start making the place mats and napkins for my 20 breakfast guests. I'm serving the old standard Northrop twelve-course breakfast, but I'll let you in on a little secret: I didn't have time to make the table and chairs this morning, so I used the ones I had on hand. Before I moved the table into the dining room, I decided to add just a touch of the holidays. So, I repainted the room in pinks and stenciled gold stars on the ceiling. Then, while the homemade bread was rising, I took antique candle molds and made the dishes (exactly the same shade of pink) to use for breakfast. These were made from Hungarian clay, which you can get in almost any Hungarian craft store.
Well, I must run. I need to finish the buttonholes on the dress I'm wearing for breakfast. I'll get out the sled and drive this note to the post office as soon as the glue dries on the envelope I'll be making. Hope my breakfast guests don't stay too long -- I have 40,000 cranberries to string with bay leaves before my speaking engagement at noon.

P.S. When I made the ribbon for this typewriter, I used 1/8 inch gold gauze. I soaked the gauze in a mixture of white grapes and blackberries which I grew, picked and crushed last week just for fun.

Our Wedding Belles...

As you all know, Rob and I are in the midst of finalizing all of our plans for our commitment ceremony. I would just like to give our beloved gaggle a "heads up" in regards to our decisions as not to shock, disappoint, or make anyone feel "left out". To start, we have asked Lynda Gayle to act as officiant. We chose her because of her vastness of belief. Basically, she has enough spirituality for Rob and enough enchantment for me. She combines the right amount of energies that is required of both planes of existence. And no, she won't be brewing a potion nor will she be pounding the Holy Bible. She was the right person, in the right place at the right time. 'Nuf said.

We have asked Gary to participate as one of our attendants and serve also as brining in our cord for the handfasting element of the ceremony. We decided on Gary because he's a sucker(I made that up, just kidding, LOL). We decided on him because he perfectly represents all of you. Kinda like a delegate or ambassador of the gaggle. This is not to say that we couldn't have chosen any one of you. Because you all mean so much to us. You each bring a different element into our life that I honestly don't think that we could do without.

As for the other attendants, Will and Chris are life long friends that have stood the test of time and distance through the years and Trish, as you all know, was the driving force behind coupling us(she should be in an institution).

We have chosen Shannon to take care of the flowers and Wade to organize the catering. It would be insane not to consult them for their services. We have agreed that they will both have time to set up then walk away. They have been made aware that they will be our guests when the service begins. Jon is inspiring us with examples of music for the reception, you all know we have to have a themed soundtrack at our parties, this is no exception.

Now, for the rest of our beloved gaggle. You are our friends and guests. This commitment service is more a celebration. We have hired a bartender and servers to cater to all of your needs. So, we want you all to put on your most hansome suit and enjoy the celebration that we intend for you. We would like to thank all of you for your support through this period. And an early note of thanks to Thom and Gary who will be hosting "the gaggle" shower. And, of course, to the "Nashvegas" gaggle. We had a wonderful time.(fuck that noise...shit.) And there might even be a pig or two. I mean, hell, we did pig out every chance we got. Blackstone, Calypso, Red, and Cracker Barrell. And even Huey's when we got back to Memphis.

What about Fozzie the Bear? Yeah, we saw bears at the Chute. And maybe Hotass could play the role of Fozzie.

What about Gonzo? Well, yeah...anybody watching the Gaggle in Nashville would know that Wanda was the weirdo. Lying down in front of the train. Giving birth to a watermelon. Delivering Krispy Kremes while we wait for a table at Cracker Barrell. Like I said, what's it like to not have shame.

As you all may well know A.J. has given me a great opportunity to move about 10 steps up the proverbial latter of success. I've had two interviews with Glen who is the manager of Brooks Bros. at Wolfchase -- and a phone interview with the regional manager as well. Everything seems to have gone well so far, though I've been incredibly nervous. To boot, the general notion of leaving Burke's has been freaking me the fuck out, for lack of a better phrase.
Also, the fact that I'll be going into a sales position with little to no knowledge of the product is equally daunting.
But scared shitless that I might be, I won't let is stop me from improving the quality of my life. Doing well at this job would change every aspect of my life in ways that a can hardly imagine. I am in A.J.'s debt and owe thanks to every one of you for your true friendship, acceptance and support. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Neal said he couldn't keep his fingers crossed while at work so he tied his dick in a knot. Needless to say this made for some very interesting
sex later. And -- speaking of which, things with Neal are going really well. So I'm also grateful that he is liked among my beloved gaggle. Things seem to be going so well lately. Keep your eyes peeled for evil little fingers at the edge of my rug, because I'm quite paranoid about it being pulled out from under my flip-flops. That bare floor is hard on the ass. And this particular carpet goes so well with the room.

Refering to the pic and the temperature outside during the "South Pacific". Just a note to say, "Bravo!". I think it was a stellar event. Why I've never seen so many hot, wet, happy bears, cubs, and otters in all my queer days. Oh, there was this time in The Eagle in NOLA, but that's a story for another time. I apologize for wimping out, I think the sun and heat was all I could handle. I know that everyone had a great time, though (even Skipper, who was "tied up for most of the later afternoon with some other bears and an otter). He's got to be one of the luckiest guys in the lotof us. And of course, Wanda Jean...reported to have "stubbed" his toe in a sushi bar while dining with the Pink Lady and co. And what happened when the sun went down, one can never tell with that bunch left with the last of the summer beer....
All I can say is Tman and Hotass hosted a wonderful afternoon. My only regrets are that I didn't hang around longer and Tman didn't wear a grass skirt. I am looking forward to our big Nashvegas getaway! Summer is drawing near end, what shall we do for Autumn? How can I even begin to plan Autumn when it's still too darn hot?!
